Hi Everyone,

I met with Dr Buchin for the first time yesterday. He was wonderful to speak with and incredibly patient....especially since I chewed his ear off! (I was very nervous and tend to talk a mile a minute on a good day but when I am nervous I can't shut up!) He was extremely informative and made me feel really, really comfortable. Dr Buchin is the third surgeon I have met with since I started considering have  WLS  over 2 years ago and he is definitely the Doctor I want to perform my surgery. He is the first one that I felt confident with. I spent this morning making all the pre-op testing appointments with cardiologist, pulmonologist, PCP etc. I can not express how excited I am! I just have to make up my mind about which type of surgery to have. The bypass or the sleeve. I am leaning toward the sleeve. I'm sure I'll change my mind several times before I decide for sure which one I will have. I have been reading the boards since I made the appointment with Dr Buchin and they have been very informative and reassuring. (Thank you all for that!) I am looking forward to meeting some of you at the support group!

Hi Julie-

Welcome to the boards...I chose the bypass as my insurance wouldnt even hear that i wanted the sleeve- but im happy so far. A few hang ups but nothing major. I had my surgery march 12th and I'm doing well. I went from a size 24 and now wearing a size 12/14 in less than 2 months. Dr. Buchin and sophia are AWESOME!! They have been there for me every step of the way even when i drive them nuts with my crazy questions. Good luck with the pre-op stuff Smiley

Hi Julie!

I am a newbie too! I have just finished most of my pre-op evaluations and can hardly wait to start on my journey. If you can, come to the support group meeting on the 13th. I attended my first one last month, and it answered so many of my questions. It's nice to have someone to share this experience with!

Hey,

Yes he truely is a great doctor.  Very friendly too.  That is why I had my sleeve done threw him.  Always checked up on me to make sure everything was right.  Called me right away if my blood tests came up with anything suspecious.  He definitely follows threw even after surgery and I have known some doctors that just stop calling but he isn't one of them.  I wish you good luck with the sleeve I was very lucky to have the sleeve but the insurance doesn't always covers it.  I wish you the best of luck to your weight loss Smiley

Hi     everyone this is  my first time reading the boards and I hope to soon have this bypass surgery also.  I'm really excited about my decision to have this done, but I'm also nervous. I haven't been able to attend an informational sessions yet because of my work schedule.   I met with Dr. Buchin  this past May and I automatically knew he was the surgeon for me.  He is very informative and answered all of  my questions.  He also was able to  understand that I feel like a skinny girl trapped in a big  body  (lol).  I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your stories and  words of encouragement.

Welcome to the boards newbies:) i'm 3 months out and lost 85lbs Woohoo!! currently wearing a size 10 Smiley ( I should note that these results are not typical) Ive had some difficulty along the way but I wouldnt go back on my decision ever! Dr. Buchin is amazing and one of the best people I've ever met. His care and concern about his patients far surpasses any healthcare professional I've ever encountered and understandably you are nervous but I promise you it is all well worth it and the best possible decision you can make for yourself. I too have had difficulty attending meetings but if you get a chance check out the website www.bariatriceating.com They have tons of information and a great resource for food ideas for post and pre-op. I also recommend the book that is on there called before and after- its great for people who are beginning their journey and a great reference for those who have been at it for a while. Good Luck newbies! Feel free to contact me if you would like to ask any questions Smiley

Hi, Casandra

I'm a newbie my name is Janet And I'll be having surgery soon. I just wanted to ask you some questions if you don't mine. How soon after did you you start going to the gym. Because i don't want to rush myself yet i don't want just sit around I know I could go walking be that bores me I like weight training and things like that.

On a other note how are you doing with the way you eat has it gotten better? Are you still drinking protein  shakes and how often? I think it fantastic all the weight you've dropped I'm sure it wasn't easy keep up the good work.

hi there sorry its been a awhile since ive responded... I went to the gym around 2 weeks and was walking when i was home from the hospital. I really try to eat as much protein as possible so i dont have to drink those icky shakes but sometimes i actually crave one. I dont really eat any bread or pasta- they make me sick as well as some sugar free things. Luckily i dont have the sugar dumping thing so i just chose things that are lower in sugar. I have been eating yogurts that have like 18 grams of protein in them and totally love them i finally can eat tuna fish again and LOVE sushi.   feel free to email me any questions you have casandrakmiller@gmail.com

good luck!
