Helping you on Your Journey to a healthier and happier life

Sleeve Gastrectomy:  A Post Op Check In  by  Anasa Parks

Hello everyone, my name is Anasa.  My story is very short but honest.

I was 345 lbs, my highest weight, and later lost 45 lbs on my own.  As we all know when you lose weight quickly you gain twice as much back.  I currently weigh 212lbs and I am happy to be able to put that on paper. It was really funny,  the event that led up to my meeting Dr Buchin and deciding to make a change in my life. On July 4th of last year I was speaking with my cousin’s girlfriend and she showed me her before and after pictures. That’s when I realized I was ready for a change. I want to begin by saying I loved myself and had a very high self esteem before my operation. The very next day I called my insurance company and that was it. I had made a critical and honest decision to go through whatever it would take to achieve my goal, which I did. I completed all my appointments in 2 months and 3 weeks..

Wow. I was shocked that my health insurance approved me so quickly. That reinforced in my mind that this was for me and that God had put his stamp of approval on this entire event. My surgery was on Sept. 28, 2007 and 9 months later I am obviously still here, alive and well, thanks to God and Dr Buchin.

Prior to surgery people said I looked fine and that I should loose the weight on my own. It’s not easy and I know this first hand because I have tried many times over but it just never worked. Whatever I had lost just came right back and then some. With the weight loss surgery, the sleeve in my case, I am losing weight with a little help.  No one should be ashamed of that because I am definitely not ashamed. I am happy that I can now run and play with my god children, laugh without trying to catch my breath, go up and down the stairs without feeling like I have an elephant on my chest.  The everyday things that I took for granted,  I am now able to do.  If you are considering weight loss surgery because your tired of loosing and gaining the weight back, and you want  to do the simple things in life again, weight loss surgery will make it happen because it happened for me.

Take care.   I will have  more to write again soon.

Text Box: TIP OF THE MONTH
WHOLE GRAINS are often put on the back burner after bariatric surgery. Even though it is important to include protein, vegetables, or fruit at your meals, whole grains should still be included at least twice a day. Whole grains are a nutrition powerhouse that provide fiber, B vitamins, vitamin E, and the minerals magnesium, copper, zinc, and selenium. They will also help you feel full and delay hunger
