Helping you on Your Journey to a healthier and happier life

MY LIFE WITH THE LAP BAND...A journey in progress             by  Concetta Petrick

I never, in a million years would have thought anyone would ask me to tell my story of weight loss. I never thought I would even have a story to tell. I still have more to lose but I can’t believe how much I have already accomplished.

In December 2006 I literally woke up one morning and was so sick of taking pills for my diabetes and high blood pressure. I felt terrible, and I had no energy. I really started to think I wouldn’t be around to see my children grow up. It really upset me. I needed to do something just for me.

It was a long road just preparing for surgery. I have never been to so many doctors in my life. I decided on the lap band. I did my research and for me that was the best decision. With either procedure you must realize it’s only a tool not a total fix. I still had a lot of work to do on my own.

My surgery was August 30.2007. I was so scared. I never had any kind of surgery before, so I didn’t know what to expect. Dr. Buchin was amazing. He’s so down to earth you feel like your talking to a friend.

I can only say that I feel so much better, so comfortable with myself. An 80 pound loss was really what I needed. I am almost off all my meds, and I feel healthy. My goal is 100 pounds but now maybe I’m looking at 125 pounds.

I hope after sharing my story this will motivate anyone considering weight loss surgery and also keep myself motivated. It’s hard work everyday. It’s a journey I hope to never forget. I have shed a lot of tears from fear and from not knowing the future. I can’t  believe I almost didn’t go through with it. I also had tons of support. My family and friends are awesome and I love every one of them. I am by no means near my goal yet, but I just take one day at a time and I’m really loving every minute of it.

LEMON ICE BOX PIE

By Dorothy Desmond

LEMON ICEBOX PIE

I made this at a family gathering this weekend, using the Crystal Light Lemonade.   I didn't want the extra calories and carbs by putting it in a pie shell, so I just spooned it into my Pyrex pie dish.  Kept it in the freezer overnight, then when I got to my Dad's I put it in the fridge.  Everyone absolutely loved it!  It will be a great dessert for the summer, cool and refreshing.

· One 4-serving size pkg. sugar-free vanilla instant pudding

· 1 tub Crystal Light Lemonade or Sunrise Orange

· 2 cups milk

· 1 12-ounce container low fat Cool Whip, thawed

Mix first 3 ingredients together.

Fold in the Cool Whip.

Spoon into a pie shell, or custard cups and chill or freeze.

This sets up like a mousse and is so fluffy and refreshing. Try it topped with fresh berries or warm jam drizzled over the top.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
Aim for a minimum of 64 ounces of water per day. Keep a bottle or glass of water within reach at all times as a reminder to sip. Blend a 64-ounce pitcher of Crystal Lite with 3 scoops of Nectar and keep in the fridge for all day sipping to accomplish two tasks at once
